Samsung Galaxy S23 (Plus): This is how big the batteries really get

Samsung will officially unveil the new Galaxy S23 smartphones in early February 2023. But before the phones can be sold, they have to go through approval authorities. And that is exactly what has now happened with the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus in the US. Now we know exactly how much bigger the batteries of the phones will be.

Samsung installs slightly larger batteries in the Galaxy S23 (Plus)

In the past few weeks, there has been repeated speculation that Samsung will install larger batteries in the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. There was talk of about 200 mAh more in each case. The FCC has now clarified the whole story, because both smartphones have appeared at the regulatory agency and their batteries have been recorded in detail. According to this, the Galaxy S23 Plus gets a 4,565 mAh battery, which should be advertised with a capacity of 4,700 mAh. The battery of the Galaxy S23 measures 3,785 mAh and is likely to be advertised as a 3,900 mAh battery (source: SamMobile).

The information about the battery’s exact capacity and the “typical” capacity are quite normal. The battery advertised as a 3,700 mAh battery in Samsung’s Galaxy S22 also “only” has 3,590 mAh. The values differ because the conditions of use are different. In the end, only the “typical” value is relevant for us because we use it to evaluate the capacity of a smartphone battery. Accordingly, the FCC has thus confirmed that the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus each get a 200 mAh larger battery compared to their predecessors. Thus, the rumors were correct.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra remains unchanged

So while the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus will get slightly larger batteries, everything will remain the same with the Galaxy S23 Ultra and its 5,000 mAh battery. However, the new top smartphone might also get a slightly longer battery life, because Samsung will insert an additional energy-saving mode with the new models, which will increase the smartphones’ efficiency. At the beginning of February 2023, we will see whether all this is confirmed.
