In a recent interview with FirstSportz, American tennis player Taylor Fritz came to the defense of Danish newcomer Holger Rune, praising the 18-year-old’s confidence and “arrogance” on the court.
Rune, who has been making waves in the tennis world with his confident and often cocky demeanor, has faced criticism for his attitude on the court. However, Fritz, who is ranked World No. 32, believes that Rune’s attitude is what sets him apart and will ultimately lead to his success in the sport.
Speaking to FirstSportz, Fritz stated, “I think his arrogance is what is going to make him great. I think he has a really strong belief in himself and knows that he’s going to be one of the best players in the world. You need that confidence and that swagger to be a top player.”
Fritz went on to compare Rune’s attitude to that of the “Big 3” in men’s tennis – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic – who are known for their unwavering confidence and determination on the court.
“Look at the Big 3, look at Roger, Rafa, and Novak. They all have that swagger about them. They all have that confidence about them, and I think Holger has that,” Fritz said.
While some may see Rune’s confidence as cockiness, Fritz believes that it is a necessary trait for success in a highly competitive sport like tennis. He also emphasized that Rune’s work ethic and determination are equally as important in his quest to become a top player.
Rune has already made a name for himself on the ATP Tour, reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 130. With the support of fellow players like Taylor Fritz, it is clear that Rune’s confidence and determination are not going unnoticed.
It will be interesting to see how Rune’s career continues to unfold and whether his controversial attitude on the court will ultimately lead to success in the same vein as the “Big 3.”
