As the final event of the DP World Tour Championship rolls on, several big names in the golfing world have been trading blows at the event. However, one name that has stolen all the headlines is Englishmen Matt Wallace. He would shoot a low round score of 60 with impressive skills to take the lead going into the final day.
This performance from him would leave the world awestruck. Shooting any score below 65 is considered a huge feat in golf. To score 60, Wallace had to work hard. On the moving day of the event, he would go on to record a score of 33 on the first nine holes. His amazing performance has just started though as he did something incredible on the back nine.
He would go on to make nine consecutive birdies. His putting skills mesmerized everyone watching from the sidelines as he continued to march on towards history. Wallace managed to get a low score of 27 at the back nines to cap off an incredible day.
Another interesting thing was that he started the day seven shots behind the top. By the time everyone was done, he would lead the the leaderboard by one stroke ahead of Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland who both finished the day with a score of 66.
Matt Wallace expresses joy to pull back in contention through an amazing performance
At the start of the day, very few would have even dreamed about this performance. Matt Wallace’s amazing performance has pulled him right back into contention. He would later express his joy to be able to do so while labeling it an “awesome day“.
"That was fun... An amazing day. Just tried my hardest to get myself back into the tournament. I'm really happy that I've been able to do that. I didn't even think there was a 59".
Matt Wallace about his performance through ESPN.
The Englishman has now tied the record of nine consecutive birdies with James Nitties, who also did the same during the 2019 Vic Open. As the final concludes on Sunday, Wallace is in prime position to claim his fifth European title.
However, he knows the chasing pack will not give up so easily. One of his main rivals Hovland has been in stunning form this season. The Norwegian would be hoping to become the golfer to claim both the DP World Tour Championship and the PGA Tour Championship in the same season.
