Boxing fans have been waiting a long time to see the heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. Furthermore, the two boxers are set to fight at the same location on the same evening. Unfortunately, the fight will not be between them because they are fighting on the same card as the main and co-main events. However, the fight between them will eventually happen if they win their upcoming bouts.
In the recent press conference for the December 23 event, Wilder, for the first time, met Joshua face-to-face. Subsequently, during the press conference, Wilder cordially spoke about Joshua and showed him a lot of respect. However, after the press conference, Wilder had an interview with the Daily Mail about boxing, where he suggested that Joshua had lost his sense of identity. Anthony Joshua has responded to Wilder’s comments:
Who the f*** is he? He’s a boxer not a psychologist… The boy has had 50 fights and he fought Jason Gavern in his 30-something fight, I probably fought him in my 12th.”
In an interview with Boxing News Online, Joshua responded to Wilder by mentioning his achievements and comparing them to Wilder’s. Furthermore, Joshua stated that he is way different compared to Wilder and has been a two-time world champion.
Subsequently, Joshua reaffirmed that his identity is strong and that there are no gaps or weaknesses in his sense of self.
Deontay Wilder blames Anthony Joshua for avoiding a $50 million deal
Wilder and Joshua are two of the biggest names in the heavyweight game. A few years ago, it seemed they were going to fight to unify the heavyweight titles.
However, Wilder lost his WBC title to Tyson Fury, and Joshua lost his title to Oleksandr Usyk. Subsequently, Wilder has always accused Joshua of avoiding their highly anticipated heavyweight. Similarly, in an interview with 78SPORTSTV, Wilder stated that Joshua didn’t accept the fight even after being offered $50 million.
Hence, Wilder blames Joshua’s promotion company for not letting them fight inside the ring. Furthermore, Wilder stated that Joshua is the main star of their promotion company, and they cannot let him keep losing.
